ASM members receive deep discounts on journal subscriptions plus other member benefits. To subscribe to a print or online ASM journal as a member, please do the following:

  • Individuals can complete the appropriate membership application at http://estore.asm.org. Full, Postdoctoral, and Transitional members save $2 by paying their dues online. Alternatively, members can produce a pro forma invoice after completing the membership application and send their payment to the Member Subscription Office address listed below. No discount applies.

  • Renewing members can renew online. Members preferring not to pay online with a credit card have the option of printing a customized invoice. To do so, you must access renew online and choose "Offline payment method" when you get to the pre-checkout page. An invoice suitable for printing will be produced that you can then print and submit with your payment. Members who renew their 2008 membership online prior to December 31, 2007 will receive an additional discount to be used on select titles at the ASM eStore.
  • For online subscribers: Approximately two weeks after payment has been received at ASM, new subscribers will be sent an e-mail or letter with instructions for obtaining access. The letter will direct you to an online form, where you will be asked to provide the following information for your journal subscription record:

Name, phone number, and e-mail address
ASM member number (included with the letter)
A user name and a password that you can easily remember

Subscription Term: An online subscription is for the calendar year. Once a subscription terminates, further access to the online journal will be denied unless renewed. However, free access is granted to a journal's archive (i.e., issues published more than four [4] months previously for the primary-research journals and one [1] year previously for the review journals).

Member Online Subscribers Have Access To: Tables of contents, abstracts, accepted manuscripts published online ahead of final issue publication, full-text searching, full-text display in both HTML and PDF formats, Figure/Table Searching, access to the entire ASM Minireview Collection, and links to outside databases (e.g., PubMed). • All institutional subscribers must agree to this license before access is granted (subscribers will be asked to agree online during access activation - please do not mail us a signed agreement).
  • Submit your order and payment to your subscription agent or directly to our Institutional Subscription Office. If you are ordering through a subscription agent, it is important that they submit your site administrator contact information to us. This will allow us to process your order promptly and contact the correct individual with activation instructions via e-mail.
  • Once your order and payment have been received and processed by ASM's Institutional Subscription Office, a letter or e-mail with instructions for obtaining access to the online journal(s) will be sent to your site administrator. This letter will give direction to an online form to provide the following information necessary to activate the online subscription:

Institution's IP address(es)
Contact name, title, phone, fax, and e-mail
Customer number (included in the letter)

As soon as ASM receives a correctly completed access form, the subscription will be activated and
