There exist no standardized methods for culturing cardiac rhythm management devices. To identify the most optimal culturing method, we compared various techniques that comprise vortex, sonication, incubation or combinations thereof. Incubation alone yielded similar bacterial colony counts as other culturing combinations, and is the least labor-intensive.
